“The faculty in the HES department have given me many opportunities to explore what I would like to do in the future. They are very helpful in figuring out different paths and post graduation options.”

Having an interest in sports psychology, a major in Exercise Physiology has helped Lucie explore her passion for understanding the human body and mind.

Within the Health and Exercise Science Department, she has found an atmosphere that is very supportive and helpful in expanding her abilities. Of the department, Lucie says, “All of the professors want you to succeed and are very helpful in answering questions.”

She also appreciates the collaborative nature of the department, in which she is exposed to the varying perspectives of her classmates. Through the department, Lucie has had opportunities to engage in student research that she is passionate about, and says that it “has allowed me to better understand the research process and connect with my peers.”

Additionally, Lucie was able to participate in a study abroad trip to Iceland, Norway, and Sweden, during which she learned about Olympic sports in Scandinavia. Within the Department, Lucie describes her relationships with professors as mentorships in which faculty genuinely care about their students both in and out of the classroom. The department faculty have also provided Lucie with important resources and information regarding post-graduate opportunities, which has helped her explore career options. While they push students to be the best that they can be, professors also provide them with support and guidance throughout the process.

Outside of the classroom, Lucie is also involved on campus with the Women’s soccer team, SAAC, and Gustavus Intramurals.
