“The professors I have encountered have had substantial and multifaceted experience within their area of expertise, and I value their advice substantially.”
With a Management major, Jenna has been able to incorporate her interest in biology to pursue a career in the business end of the medical field.
Within the Business and Management Department, Jenna feels that she has been able to develop personal relationships with all of her professors and receive advice from them on both coursework and preparation for a future career. In particular, she has appreciated Professor Lonnie Hosman, saying, “Not only was he a helpful and engaging teacher, but genuinely had concern for every student’s well being and was always inviting discussions about professional endeavors.”
Through the department, Jenna has enjoyed opportunities to engage in experiential learning that has advanced her skills. She specifically points out the opportunity to work with a real business establishment in a marketing class, in which she was able to collaborate with a company’s marketing department. Through this experience, she was able to apply skills that she had learned in her coursework, saying, “My group was also able to work on the cutting edge of a new service the company had in production, which was highly rewarding.”
Jenna was also able to engage in meaningful experiential learning, participating in the Innovation Scholars Program. Through this program, Jenna worked with a team to investigate a confidential Mayo Clinic invention, and later provide recommendations for implementing the invention in the medical field. This was another experience in which Jenna was able to implement the skills that she had learned in her coursework, and says, “It was gratifying to be able to apply my education to a real-world invention.” Through these experiences and the support of the Business and Economics Department, Jenna has gained confidence in the knowledge that will aid her post graduation.
In addition to her Management major, Jenna is also involved on campus with Gustie Buddies and Pediatric Cancer Outreach Crew.
