“[HES Faculty] push me to be better everyday and continue to build confidence in my abilities.”
With athletics always having been a big part of her life, a major in Athletic Training has made Isabel feel that she can stay involved in sports for as long as possible, all while having the rewarding experience of helping athletes overcome their injuries.
Within the Health and Exercise Science Department, Isabel has developed many close friendships through time spent together in classes and clinicals. The Athletic Training Program has also allowed Isabel to participate in many learning opportunities outside of the classroom, including traveling with the Gustavus Football Team and Men’s Soccer Team. Additionally, she was able to observe a team physician in the clinic and the operating room at TRIA, Bloomington.
Isabel appreciates all of the faculty within the Health and Exercise Science Department, but is especially grateful for the preceptors who supervise care in the Athletic Training Room, who help students apply what they are learning in the classroom to real-life situations. She says, “We spend countless hours together and I would not be the student I am today without all of them!” Isabel feels that the department has helped her prepare for her future career, with faculty giving resources to learning opportunities outside of the classroom, as well as advising her on the best courses to take. Faculty have helped her build her confidence and skills, making her ready to take on future challenges and opportunities.
Outside of the Health and Exercise Science Department, Isabel is also involved on campus with the Gustavus Athletic Training Association, Student Senate and the Softball Team.
