“The learning and community atmosphere in the Communication Studies Department is welcoming, encouraging, and always open to new ideas.”

As someone who enjoys working with people, a major in Communication Studies has allowed Jordan to explore different perspectives, as well as open the door to various different career opportunities in the future. She has enjoyed the welcoming atmosphere within the Communication Studies Department, which she feels has helped her to become more confident “personally, professionally, and academically”. She appreciates the effort that Communication Studies faculty put in to connect with students within and outside of class time, and is grateful for opportunities that she has had for additional learning experiences. Within the department, Jordan has been able to work with Professor Sarah Wolter on research, and is also on the social media team for the department. These experiences have enriched her learning and given her an opportunity to explore new skills. As a whole, Jordan feels that the faculty within the Communication Studies department have shown her a level of caring for their students that helps them feel confident in their abilities and prepared for a future career. She says, “My critical thinking, problem solving, leadership, writing, and communication skills (plus much more) have become stronger because of the faculty in the department.” A professor that Jordan is especially appreciative of is Sarah Wolter, who goes out of her way to connect with and help her students. Jordan feels that Professor Wolter is someone who will have a long-lasting impact on her life. Outside of the department, Jordan is also involved on campus with the Women’s Soccer Team, Hill Crew, and the Library Advisory Board.
