Alexis Lin headshot“I feel as though the psychology department has given me a strong foundation in the psychological sciences and has prepared me well to take on the next chapters of my life.”

Alexis was drawn to a major in Psychological Science due to a longing to understand why people behave the way that they do. She also wanted to learn more about how to assist people with mental health struggles in a society where they are so prominent today.

Within the Psychological Science Department, Alexis has found support from both the faculty and other students. She describes the faculty within the department as flexible and willing to provide any support that students need. Alexis points to her favorite faculty member as Professor Kayla De Lorme, who has given her an exceptional amount of support, saying, “She is fun to talk to, very caring, and a great mentor.”

Of her peers within the department, she says, “The students are also caring and ready to give a helpful hand whether it be catching you up on notes, or even helping you understand concepts learned in class.”

Through the Psychological Science Department, Alexis was given an incredibly special opportunity after success in her Stats and Research Methods II course. In this course, she worked to design a research study on the effects of exercise on stress in college students. Her group found results that they were able to present at the Western Medical Research Conference in Carmel, California. After this experience, she was asked to help write a literature review on prenatal exposure to THC. This has given her valuable experience that she can carry with her throughout her career, saying, “I now have a strong foundation in research, how to read empirical articles, and psychology.”

Outside of her work within the Psychological Science Department, Alexis is also involved on campus with the Women’s Soccer Team, Asian Student Union, Pre-Health Professionals, Building Bridges, and Leadership Academy.
